Myers Park High School
Myers Park High School, better known as Myers Park, is a public high school within the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System that services the southern central area of Mecklenburg County. Located at 2400 Colony Road, Charlotte, NC 28209, the school is fed by the surrounding neighborhoods of Myers Park, Wendover, Barclay Downs/Southpark, and Beverly Woods. Established in 1951, it is home to 3,539 students and 176 faculty. The school’s mascot is the Mustangs.
Location
Myers Park directly services the neighborhood of Myers Park, as well as the surrounding areas of Wendover, Barclay Downs/Southpark, and Beverly Woods. These submarkets are in the southern central region of Mecklenburg County and border the school district lines with West Charlotte, Garinger, Harding, East Mecklenburg, South Mecklenburg, and Providence High Schools. In essence, Myers Park is in the direct center of the county. A majority of these neighborhoods are quintessential suburbia and are home to some of the highest-valued homes in all of Charlotte. As of 2023, the median household income for the area’s ZIP of 28209 was $92,528. The median sales price for the area was $587,000 in September 2023. Shopping in this area is concentrated in two separate nodes: Southpark and Park Road. Southpark is the premier shopping mall of Charlotte and hosts some of the most recognized brands in retail such as Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, and Belk among others. Park Road is home to Park Road shopping center. Here patrons can indulge in products from the likes of J. Crew, Harris Teeter, and Michaels. The Myers Park area is accessed via Park Rd, Tyvola Rd, Woodlawn Rd, and Sharon Rd.
Academics
Myers Park services grades 9-12 and is generally considered a good school for academics in the Charlotte area. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI), 85% of all 2023 graduates finished school within 4 years. This is just behind the NC State average of 86%. Greatschools found that 90% of graduates also went on to attend public university for at least 2 years. This puts Myers Park in a decent spot in terms of college readiness, as those who did graduate continued to excel in higher education programs. The school also offers 31 AP courses, 2 STEM programs, 1 art course, and 1 world language course. Test scores for Math 3, Biology, and English were all above the average for the state of North Carolina. The only exception was in Math 1, where students lagged 3% behind their state counterparts. As of 2023, there are 176 teachers at Myers Park, resulting in a Student / Teacher Ratio of 20-1.

Myers Park High School students were well prepared for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in 2023. According to the NC DPI, students outscored their CMS, State, and National counterparts in both the Reading and Math sections of the exam. The largest advantage was held in the Reading section, where Myers Park students outperformed other CMS students by about 3.8%. This information points to the school being above average when preparing students for higher education compared to other CMS high schools. The SAT participation rate for the school was 50%.
Average ACT Test Scores: 2022-2023
Myers Park also prepared its students well for the Aptitude and Critical Thinking test (ACT). Average 2023 scores for English, Math, Reading, and Science were all above those of their CMS, State, and National counterparts. The largest advantage held by Myers Park was in English, where students were outscored by their CMS counterparts by 27.2% on average.

The 4-Year Graduation Rate at Myers Park High School has hovered in the 80’s range since 2018. There have been wide fluctuations to this average as the school saw a stark decline in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The school had its low point in 2021 when 79.9% of the graduating class graduated in 4 years. This has slightly rebounded in the two years following but has not achieved pre-pandemic levels. This trend is similar to that of CMS and the State, though it is clear that Myers Park has been more seriously impacted.
Food Assistance Programs
Myers Park High School, as well as all CMS schools, provides meals for underprivileged students via the CMS School Nutrition Services system. This service provides both breakfast and lunch options to students across Mecklenburg County. According to Mecklenburg County Public Health, approximately 15% of households are food insecure, so this program is a welcome addition to Myers Park’s cafeteria.
