Charlotte Country Day School

Charlotte Country Day School, also known as CD, is a private high school located within the Governor’s Square neighborhood of Charlotte. Founded in 1941, the school services grades K-12 and is known for its excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. Several notable alumni walked the halls of Country Day including actor and comedian Biran Huskey, two-time Super Bowl champion Mike Cofer, and songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez. The school prides itself on its educational prestige and its students often go on to attend accredited universities following graduation. The school is represented by the colors green and gold, and its mascot is the Buccaneers.

Sandwiched between the neighborhoods of Sharon Woods and Olde Providence North, the area is home to several residential subdivisions built primarily in the 1960s. Country Day students were well prepared for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in 2023. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI), as well as other private school reporting, CD students outperformed their Charlotte private and public school counterparts as well as the State and National average. This information points to the school excelling in preparing students for higher education. The SAT participation rate for the school was 100%.

Country Day students were also well prepared for the Aptitude and Critical Thinking test (ACT). Average 2023 composite scores outperformed average CMS, State, and National high school scores by at least 11 points (19). CD students also graded higher than the average Charlotte private school student by 2 points (29).


Athletics

Country Day School participates in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) and has seen much success at the state level. The school has won a total of 145 championships across 72 sports teams. Training and sports facilities are top-notch at CD and the school grounds are dotted with several sporting arenas and even a full-service aquatics center. The school has some of the best sporting amenities in the Charlotte area so it’s easy to see why the Buccaneers routinely compete for State Championships.


Arts

Charlotte Country Day School emphasizes the arts that only a few other schools can measure up to. During the school year, students put on around 70 different concerts, plays, and musicals, and every student is required to partake in programs emphasizing the arts. CD has also hosted a public art exhibit every year since 2009 which has hosted many famous artists including Romare Bearden, Chas Fagan, and W. Louis Jones, among others.
