SouthLake Christian Academy, also known as SouthLake, is a private high school located in Huntersville to the northwest of Charlotte. Founded in 1994, the school services grades K-12 and is known for its excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. SouthLake is a ministry of the SouthLake Presbyterian Church and has several courses discussing theology. The school prides itself on its educational prestige and its students often go on to attend accredited universities following graduation. The school is represented by the colors blue and gold, and its mascot is the Eagles.

SouthLake Christian Academy is located within the town of Huntersville to the northwest of Charlotte. There has been steady development and growth here in recent years with the town being voted one of the best places to live in North Carolina by Rocket Homes. Prominent subdivisions including Birkdale Village and The Overlook at Mountain Island Lake are located within the neighborhood boundaries, and several nature preserves dot the district. As of 2023, the median Household Income for the area’s Zip of 28078 was $113,116. This is close to double the state average of $65,070. The median sales price for the area was $525,667 in September 2023. Shopping centers such as Birkdale, Rosedale, and of course, Northlake Mall provide residents with high-end shopping opportunities. These neighborhoods are accessed via I-485, I-77, Beatties Ford Rd, Gilead Rd, and Sam Furr Rd.

Academics

SouthLake services grades K-12 and is considered a fantastic school as far as academics go for the Charlotte area. SouthLake reports a 100% graduation rate among its seniors and almost all go on to attend 4-year higher education programs. These statistics put the school well above the average North Carolina public school, where on average 86% of seniors received their diplomas. The school also offers 27 Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, a STEAM lab, and several arts courses. As of 2023, there are 79 teachers at SouthLake, resulting in the school having a Student / Teacher Ratio of 8-1.

SouthLake Christian Academy students were well prepared for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in 2023. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI), as well as other private school reporting, SouthLake students outperformed their Charlotte public school counterparts as well as the State and National average. They did however fall slightly below their fellow Charlotte Private Schools. Regardless, this information still points to the school excelling in preparing students for higher education. The SAT participation rate for the school was 100%.

SouthLake students were also well prepared for the Aptitude and Critical Thinking test (ACT). Average 2023 composite scores outperformed average CMS, State, and National high school scores by at least 8 points. CD students also graded higher than the average Charlotte private school student by 2 points (29).


Athletics

SouthLake Christian Academy participates in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) and has seen success at the state level. The school has won a total of 25 championships across 35 sports teams. Training and sports facilities include an indoor gymnasium, weight room, football and baseball stadiums, and a 3.1 mile cross-country course around the school grounds. With the school continuing to invest in new facilities it's no wonder the Eagles have begun competing for State Championships.


Arts

SouthLake encourages students from a young age to participate in the fine arts. During the school year, students can choose from 7 different subjects covering everything from orchestra to the visual arts. Within these classes they are mentored and encouraged to express themselves whether that be on stage or on a canvas. Throughout the year the school puts on several plays and concerts, many of which have been recognized by the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Blumey Awards. Students' paintings and photographs constantly line the halls of the school at SouthLake, and many wind up within the school's art gallery throughout the year. SouthLake is a fantastic school if your child is looking to experience the arts.
